Ray-Pec High School finished in the Top 40 in the nation from more than 1,000 participating schools at the National Speech and Debate Tournament. This year, the tournament was held in a virtual format with students submitting recorded performances.
Beginning with competition at the district level, more than 4,000 students from across the country compete in each event. The top 300 of those students qualify to compete at the national tournament. Ray-Pec had nine students compete at the National Tournament.
Congratulations to 2020 Senior Ella Schnake on placing 7th in the nation in Program Oral Interpretation! She was the national champion in this event as a junior in 2019.
Larissa Wratney and Jillian Humke finished 33rd in Duo Interpretation. Alec Heriford placed 54th in Dramatic Interpretation. Spencer Barr placed 61st in Humorous Interpretation. Madison Busby and Paige Showen placed 85th in Duo Interpretation. Caleb Walker and Amy Fleak competed in Policy Debate. Their final place is not determined, because breaks are done on the number of ballots for and against, rather than a placement system.
