This powerful play is about the difficulty of loss. Winner of the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, "The Shadow Box" by Michael Cristofer deals with issues of mortality and accepting the loss of a family member. The play takes place in a hospice cottage, and follows three different families taking care of their terminally ill loved ones. Each of these stories occurs in a different time, but all three occupy the same physical and emotional space. In their waning hours, each patient must take stock in what is most important to them: family. The show deals with difficult issues in a mature manner and thus, it has a PG 13 rating.
The cast includes Nigel Norvell as the Interviewer, Ronald Graves as Joe, Meghan Larsen as Maggie, Tre Hill as Steve, Nathan Eckert as Bryan, Jared Dosch as Mark, Makiya Leslie-Hardison as Beverly, Brooklyn Burk as Felicity, and Bailey Martin as Agnes.
Working behind the scenes are Dane Schnake as the director, and Todd Schnake, Pam Schnake, Michael Connelly, and Kay Connelly as production assistants. The lighting designer is Jillian Griffin. The light board operator is Abigail Ragsdale. The assistant directors/understudies for "The Shadow Box" are Natalie Kies and Noah Tuttle. The stage manager is Owen Phillips. The sound designer is Aisha Yanez-Corea, and the sound engineer is Elijah O’Brien. Props are overseen by Madi Priest and Hailey Feagins.
